From dusk until dawn, thousands of residents and tourists from various regions crowded the main streets of Solo to witness this sacred procession. The Kirab is organized by the two main cultural centers in Solo, namely Surakarta Kasunanan Palace and Mangkunegaran Temple. Both have their own ways of carrying out this tradition, but still with the same spirit, namely maintaining and continuing the ancestral heritage.

At Pura Mangkunegaran, the procession begins at 7 p.m. The participants, consisting of the palace family and courtiers, walk around the city area carrying heirlooms. There is no sound except for footsteps – it is a silent procession in which all participants refrain from speaking throughout the journey. The clothes worn are uniform, predominantly black with a touch of thick Javanese customs.

Meanwhile, from the direction of Surakarta’s Kasunanan Palace, the procession begins close to midnight. The spotlight is on the vanguard led by Kiai Slamet, a white buffalo that symbolizes the cucuk lampah that is believed to bring blessings and protection. This buffalo has become an icon that is always anticipated every year. The kirab route covers several kilometers around the heart of Solo, starting at the palace, passing through Slamet Riyadi Street, and returning to the palace complex in the early morning hours.

Source: LPM Campus

The Kirab is not only a traditional ceremony, but also a moment of reflection. Its spiritual values are deeply felt. Many participants not only performed rituals, but really underwent contemplation. Even the spectators were immersed in a silent and sacred atmosphere-there was hardly any shouting or cheering, despite the large crowd.

Some audience members who came from out of town also shared their impressions. One of them, Bening from Surabaya, said that this parade was very memorable. “I think this carnival is cool and unique. The culture is still maintained even though we live in modern times. That’s what makes me amazed by Solo,” she said. Similarly, Salwa from Yogyakarta expressed her pleasure at being able to see the procession firsthand. “The culture here is very well preserved. Not only the palace, but also the people are very enthusiastic,” she said.

Although the event lasted until late at night, the procession continued in an orderly and smooth manner. Security forces stood guard at various points to keep the situation conducive. However, the traffic flow was blocked for several hours during the procession, especially on the route from Mangkunegaran to City Hall, due to the dense crowd following the procession. Some vehicles that were desperate to park carelessly were dealt with. Overall, the event was safe. Kirab Malam 1 Suro is not only a cultural preservation event, but also a strong spiritual and cultural tourism attraction. Many visitors from outside the city come specifically to Solo to experience the atmosphere firsthand. For the local community, this procession is a source of pride. For tourists, it is a rare and unforgettable cultural experience.

In the midst of modernization and popular culture, Solo remains steadfast in maintaining its traditional roots. This procession is a space where the older and younger generations meet with the same values: love of tradition. Small children are seen being carried by their parents, teenagers are busy capturing the moment with their cell phones, while the elders remain solemnly watching the procession of the heirlooms. This scene shows that cultural heritage is not something static – it evolves, is passed on, and continues to find new forms in everyday life.

Source: LPM Campus

More than a spectacle, Kirab Malam 1 Suro is a reminder that culture is identity. Amidst the hustle and bustle of changing times, Solo chooses to remain grounded in its roots. This tradition that lives in silence speaks volumes-about respect, about meaning, and about who we are as a nation.

[1,7,76

post-1003","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized","category-event","category-news
["GET
