According to Hindus, the ogoh-ogoh are symbols of evil characters such as giants or pests that harm society and are usually burned before Nyepi. For the first time in the city of Solo, the Cultural Arts and Ogoh-Ogoh Carnival was held on March 18, 2023. This event was held along the street or corridor of Jenderal Sudirman Solo, Central Java. The aim of the Solo City Government to hold this event is to commemorate the approaching Nyepi day on March 22, 2023 as well as to unite the culture or cultural carnival between Balinese and Javanese cultures. The Mayor of Solo, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, did not miss joining the carnival with his eldest son, Jan Ethes Srinarendra. During this event, Muslim parties such as Muhammadiyah and NU (Banser) also assisted in securing this event.

As for the activities on the day before Nyepi, namely, Melasti is the activity of taking holy water from water sources that are considered holy, whether it’s from lakes, lakes, and others, usually carried out 2 to 3 days before Nyepi, and Lawur Agung Kesanga is a ceremony aimed at the welfare and harmony of nature which will be implemented in Prambanan. Then after returning from Prambanan there was an activity called “Aluran Pesange” to neutralize the earth so that it would be peaceful.

Then towards Nyepi return to each temple to carry out further activities including; Mecaru is a cleansing activity for the temple, Catur Brata Penyepian is carrying out the four taboos in chess brata penyepian. Amati Geni, that is, it is forbidden to light a fire or lamp, including the fire of lust, which means self-control from all forms of anger, Amati Karya, which is prohibited from carrying out physical or work activities and the most important thing is to carry out spiritual activities for self-purification, Amati Lelungan is prohibited from going outside the house but always introspects by concentrating on astiti devotional service in front of Ida Sang Hyang Widhi or Ista Dewata, Amati Lelanguan is prohibited from holding entertainment or recreation aimed at having fun, but diligently training the mind to achieve high spiritual productivity. Then carry out Nyepi Day starting from 6 am to 6 pm. Then it ends with offering gheni, which is an act of forgiveness, just like Eid al-Fitr.

Residents who enjoy the ogoh-ogoh carnival performances from various regions and even religions, this shows that the tolerance of residents towards other religions and cultures is indeed instilled in the community. “Actually, for entertainment, enjoying moments like this happen to be weekends. Because Nyepi is once a year, it’s rare that there are Ogoh-Ogoh and Balinese dance performances here. Hopefully next year an event like this will still be held so that many people will enliven it.” said Mela Eliana, one of the visitors.

“In my opinion holding this event can also be mutual respect between religious communities or tolerance. Hopefully next year we can hold an event like this again and be more lively” please Mangku Sudarmanto as the organizing committee.

Writer : Safira Amelia Maharani (Accounting ’21)

Reporter : Bayu Adi (Accounting ’21), Kania Permanasari (Accounting ’21), Ariel Daffa Riyadi (Chemical Engineering ’21), Fitriana Tiara Wulandari (Economic Development ’22)

Editor : Shafaa Azka Indradi (Psychology ’21)

[1,7

post-461","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized","category-event
["GET
