In this demonstration, students held a demonstration against the Job Creation Law (UU) in front of the Solo City DPRD building.

By unfurling posters and banners that read rejecting the Job Creation Law, they also loudly voiced their demands. They demanded that the Job Creation Law be revoked by the Government because the law is considered detrimental to many parties, especially laborers.

In this action, the demonstrators blockaded Adi Sucipto Road and then burned used car tires to provoke the chairman of the Surakarta DPRD to come to the demonstrators. As a result, the flow of vehicles had to be diverted by the police because the students closed both roads.

Muhammad Hanif Prabowo, coordinator of BEM se-Solo Raya, said in his action, “Today what is happening is Regulatory Capture, corruption of regulations carried out by the president and the law. The creation of the Perppu (Government Regulation in Lieu of Law of the Republic of Indonesia) on job creation by the president passed by the House of Representatives has straddled the decision of the Constitutional Court. Which means that directly and visibly has committed regulatory corruption “

In their oration, students also conveyed four fundamental points to the government, including:

1. Demand the President of the Republic of Indonesia and the House of Representatives to stop the bad practice of legislation that does not implement meaningful public participation.

2. Forcing the President of the Republic of Indonesia to immediately revoke the Law on the Stipulation of the Job Creation Perppu into a Law that has been approved by the DPR RI because it is an unconstitutional act that has eliminated the object in Constitutional Court Decision No. 91/PUUXVIII/2020 because it does not meet the objective requirements of a compelling urgency and eliminates meaningful public participation.

3. Forcing the President of the Republic of Indonesia and the DPR RI to apologize to the public for their immoral actions that deliberately crossed the boundaries of the Constitution and caused damage to constitutional morality (Constitucional Morality).

4. Requesting the Minister of Manpower to revoke the Minister of Manpower Regulation (Permenaker) No.5 of 2023 because it has deprived workers of their wage rights.

Regarding the demands, of this output is not achieved, students will take action again with a larger number of ‘Warriors’ later.

Indeed, in this action the number of demonstrators was less, because there were several BEMs from various universities who resigned (refused to participate in the action) because they thought that they were too hasty in making decisions and were considered unclear.

Muhammad Hanif Prabowo as the coordinator of BEM (Student Executive Board) throughout Solo Raya confirmed that there were several University BEMs that refused to participate in the action. He also say “The reason for the non-participation of some BEMs may be the first is because we are taking action in the month of Ramadan. I still respect the decision of our alliance brothers who have not been able to take action. Secondly, there may also be some campuses with internal agendas that still have a lot of problems or may lack readiness to take action considering the preparations we make can be considered impromptu.”

The demonstration went smoothly even though it was hindered by the weather which was raining heavily and many of the demonstrators were fasting during Ramadan, it did not dampen their enthusiasm in voicing the rights of the people who had been taken away for the satisfaction of irresponsible parties. This demonstration also succeeded in getting the head of the Surakarta City DPRD to sign a lawsuit letter regarding the Job Creation Perppu.

There was an interesting incident from this demonstration, the demonstrators brought several white rats as a parable of the politicians who cheated in the formation and ratification of the Job Creation Law. Then, the rats were released in front of the DPRD entrance gate which was heavily guarded by the police. The front row of policemen were policewomen and many of them were disgusted or scared by the rats that were allowed to approach them.

Mas Hanif as the coordinator of BEM throughout Solo Raya also expressed his gratitude to friends who took action, even though the rain and fasting did not prevent us from voicing this action.

Writer : Muhammad Bayu Adi Sukarno (Accounting ’21)

Reporter : Fadiya Shofar Rosyidah (Communication Science ’20), Safira Amelia Maharani (Accounting ’21), Kenya Nurin Khasanah (Civil Engineering ’21), Ariel Daffa Riyadi (Chemical Engineering ’21)

Editor : Shafaa Azka Indradi (Psychology ’21)

(Surakarta, March 30, 2023) An alliance of college students from various universities in Solo held…

[1

post-546","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
