(Surakarta, 26 August 2023) Expo UKM (Student Activity Unit) is one of the events that become a series of events from the admission of new students of University Muhammadiyah of Surakarta. This event is also an event expected by all university level UKMs who need recruits from new students and 3rd semester students to continue the next management period. This UKM Expo was held at Edutorium UMS, where thousands of new students and 28 UKM (Student Activity Units) participated. This event was held on Saturday morning (26\/8\/2023), which started at 7am and ended at 2pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event began by welcoming speech the Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta, Pro. Dr Sofyan Anif, M.Si. This was followed by performances from various UKM students, which attracted the attention of the new students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tariza and Marwa, new students on the English Education programme, said they were amazed by the UKM’s achievements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt was exciting and the performance was very attractive,” said Tariza and Marwa, new students who attended the series of events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this event, of course, it is necessary for all the SMEs to have a stall to promote their SMEs. Mr Suyatmin as the university staff in the field of interests, talents and scholarships who participated in the committee of this UKM Expo event said that this UKM Expo event the committee or the campus had provided dozens of stands to support this event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“For the whole stand of UKM, we provide for UKM there are 28, for the whole stand means there are 32 stands,” said Mr Suyatmin as one of the university staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We have prepared Expo booths to see how the management of these UKM are recruiting new students to join UKM,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The booths at this event are not just for UKM, but there are also booths promoting outstanding programs such as scholarships abroad, study abroad programs, and other programs. There is also a section of stands with the concept of a cafeteria or food court, with various stalls offering a variety of food and drink to tempt the tastes of new students looking for delicious street food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The existence of this event is intended to introduce various student activity units at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta so that new students can develop their interests and talents through existing UKM and expand their relationships through existing organisations. All University-level SMEs have also mobilised their creativity in decorating stalls and strategies to attract the attention of new students so that they want to join their SMEs that match their interests and talents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many new students are also interested in joining UKMs at UMS to broaden their relationships and experiences. They also agree on the perception of the reasons for joining the Student Activity Unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“In our opinion, students have to join UKM because college is already expensive, it’s a waste if they just become butterfly students (collage goes home-college goes home),” said Tariza and Marwa, new English Education students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event went smoothly, although there were some problems from some university level UKMs who protested that the duration of the 5-minute performance was relatively short and that this event was only held once a year. However, Mr Suyatmin himself emphasised that the duration of the performance does not determine or affect the number of new students enrolling in their UKM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The UKM (Student Activity Units) are not only attractive, there are displays, there are parades, even at the stand they can use the time as best as possible to recruit members and above all it’s back to how smart the functionaries themselves are to recruit new members,” said Mr Drs. Suyatmin, M. Si.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
