“Government by the people, of the people, and for the people” is a statement that can describe the overall definition of a sovereign state and is closely related to the word democracy. Indonesia, as a country with a system of government, is a democratic system where citizens participate directly or indirectly in decision-making and have the same rights. One of the rights possessed by an Indonesian citizen is the constitutional right to choose and be elected as a state leader or president who will lead the country for a 5-year term. This is clearly stated in the decision of the Constitutional Court in Case Number 011-17\/PUU-I\/2003, “that the constitutional right of citizens to elect and be elected is a right guaranteed by the constitution, laws, and international conventions, …”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The baton of leadership will continue to move. February 14, 2024, will be a big day for all Indonesian citizens to democratically elect the president who will receive the baton of leadership as the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia for the term 2024-2029.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, what should we do as the next generation of young people who witness the country’s big agenda in “Pesta Demokrasi 2024”? Dito Ariotedjo, Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia, invites all young people not to waste and make good use of the right to vote wisely because the policy in choosing will determine the fate of the Indonesian nation in the future. Our votes have a major position and are political determinants and major power holders for the progress of Indonesia. “Wise in understanding, it is important for young people to deeply understand the issues they face. Political education and understanding of key issues are key in ensuring that young people can make wise decisions,” said Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Young people have generally dominated the overall population of Indonesia. There are around 107 million people, with a percentage of 52.00% of Indonesian citizens, who have voting rights in the upcoming 2024 general election. It is not a small number, young people have the biggest voice, so it is also a big responsibility for the future of Indonesia. The young generation of Indonesia also needs to actively participate in the democratic process by daring to voice opinions, actively discussing, and understanding the issues of Sustainable Development Goals <\/em>that can realize the vision of the Golden Indonesia 2045.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Bijak Memilih’ was initiated by two Non-Government Organizations <\/em>(NGOs<\/em>), namely ‘Think Policy’ and ‘What Is Up, Indonesia?’ independently, with the aim of providing understanding or education for the Indonesian people, especially the younger generation, to be able to make choices and take advantage of their voting rights in general elections based on quality information. In its website, bijakmemilih.id only collects publicly available information and data provided by third parties to ‘Bijak Memilih’. The information presented on the web page has been curated based on several criteria, namely, being of particular concern to the younger generation, being important and having a national-scale impact, and there are differences in views from several political parties on related issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Data sources for summarizing each issue presented by ‘Wise Choices’ utilize various sources that are not limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  3. Research institute <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Government, private, organization annual reports<\/li>\n\n\n\n

  6. Academic journal<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Furthermore, the sources have gone through several stages and editorial review processes by a team of experts. The expert team is a collection of experts and experts who collaborate with ‘Wise Choices’. All the information that has been presented on the ‘Wise Choices’ web page is an introduction for beginners and a bridge to understanding certain issues. Readers are strongly encouraged to better understand an issue from various sources and other points of view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The presentation of information on the different views of several political parties on an issue is based on a comprehensive analysis by the ‘Bijak Memilih’ team of experts, with the aim of providing a neutral description of political parties in Indonesia. To ensure the credibility of the information, ‘Bijak Memilih’ utilizes various sources, such as political party websites, academic research (national and international), and local media with high credibility. The party demographic data used by ‘Bijak Memilih’ is based on data obtained from the General Election Commission (KPU).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In line with the aim of ‘Wise Choosing’ to help Indonesians make their choices, ‘Wise Choosing’ enriches its information by presenting the track records of political party corruption cases. Because one of the issues that never stops in the scope of government is corruption, it is very important for the younger generation to know and understand the track record of corruption in each political party in Indonesia so that we do not make the wrong choice. Sources and processing of corruption data are obtained from the Information and Documentation Management Officer (PPID), the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), the Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) Database, <\/em>and secondary research by the news and public information channels. The corruption data presented is data on corruption committed by members of political parties in public positions at the national or regional levels in the last 10 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Always remember that all information presented on the ‘Wise Choices’ web page should not be used as the only reference, and it is advisable to conduct independent research to broaden the reader’s horizons. As voters, it is very important for the younger generation to understand how to make their choices for candidates from parties that are in line with the interests of the wider community and pay great attention to the same issues that we feel. Therefore, it is very important for young people to really understand the issues as a whole, both those that are important for themselves and for the welfare of the wider community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    ‘Bijak Memilih’ is a collaborative manifestation to create an easy-to-understand educational platform to welcome the 2024 general election from the vision and mission of ‘What Is Up, Indonesia?’ as an online media that aims to make social and political issues more interesting for Indonesia’s young generation, and ‘Think Policy’ as a platform that aims to advance the public policy ecosystem in Indonesia.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
