The protest, which took place from 1 PM to 6 PM, was filled with passionate chants of “Long live the students! Long live the people of Indonesia!”—a reflection of their growing frustration with the DPRD’s response to their demands 27/2/2025).

On February 19, 2025, students from universities across Solo Raya presented six urgent demands to the DPRD. These included the revocation of Presidential Instruction No. 1/2025, which reduced education and health budgets, an evaluation of the free nutritious meal program, and the rejection of controversial bills like the RUU Polri-TNI-Kejaksaan. They also called for the passage of the Indigenous Peoples Bill and the realization of performance allowances for lecturers.

The DPRD initially responded by signing the students’ demands on February 20 and forwarding them to the President and the national DPR on February 21. However, after a three-day deadline set by the students passed without further communication or action, frustration mounted.

The protest was led by the Solo Raya Student Alliance, a coalition of student groups and community activists. Key figures like Saifullah, Ridwan Ari Widayat, and Arif Sri Wahyudi voiced the collective concerns of the protesters. DPRD officials, including Chairman Budi Prasetyo and Secretary Kimkin, were responsible for addressing the demands. During the protest, one student shouted, “We are ordinary citizens, but you treat us like slaves. You are the criminals, and we are the ones suffering!” This sentiment echoed through the crowd, reflecting the deep sense of betrayal felt by the protesters. The protest unfolded in front of the DPRD Surakarta building, which students symbolically sealed to express their dissatisfaction with the council’s inaction. Chants of “Seal it! Seal it! Seal it! rang out as the students declared the building a symbol of broken promises.

Source: LPM Campus

Tensions escalated on February 27, when students returned to the DPRD building after their three-day deadline expired without a meaningful response. The lack of communication from the DPRD fueled their frustration. One protester yelled, “We’ve given you three days, and there’s still no clarity. You’re mocking us!”

The students argue that the DPRD has failed to fulfill its role as a representative of the people. “This is proof that our country is dead!” one student declared, capturing the anger and disillusionment of the crowd. They view the DPRD’s inaction as a sign of eroding trust in public institutions. DPRD officials maintained that they had acted promptly, forwarding the students’ demands to the central government. Chairman Budi Prasetyo stated, “On February 21, we signed and forwarded your demands to the President and the national DPR. If you feel you haven’t been contacted, it might be due to communication issues.”

However, the students were unconvinced. “Where is the proof?” they demanded repeatedly. The DPRD’s explanations were met with chants of “Liar! Liar! Liar!”

The students have vowed to continue their fight, urging citizens to join them in demanding accountability. “We will not stay silent. We will keep fighting until our voices are heard,” said one protester. They called for sustained pressure on the DPRD and the central government to address their concerns.

As the sun set on Surakarta, the sealed DPRD building stood as a stark reminder of the growing divide between the people and their leaders. The students’ message was clear: “Don’t stay silent! Fight for accountability!.” This protest underscores the importance of transparency and responsiveness in governance. The question remains: Will the DPRD take meaningful steps to address the students’ demands, or will this become another chapter in a history of unmet promises?

|

Transcript: Flora Laurifolia/English Education‘23

Writer: Robi’atul Adawiyyah/English Education‘23

Editor: Shafira Ayyu Listia Azizah/Communication Science‘22

Source: LPM Campus Solo, LPM Campus – In the heart of Surakarta, students and activists…

[1,75

post-921","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized","category-issue
["GET
