Don’t Love Me Like His Love for Sawit

Do not love me the way he loves the palms,

Spreading green monopolies across the wild,

Chanting praises like holy, unyielding psalms,

While the earth beneath is broken and defiled.

I crave to be wanted, I long to be adored,

To be the single crown upon your chest,

But do not blind your eyes, my dearest lord,

And call my deepest flaws the very best.

He looks at the scars, the dry and barren peat,

And crowns it a kingdom, flawless and divine.

He praises the wreckage, calling it a feat,

Turning blind devotion into a design.

I want your devotion, yes, I want your fire,

But do not worship what is broken inside.

Do not let propaganda fuel your desire,

Or use a grand speech for the truths you hide.

So love me humanly, with eyes wide and clear,

See my rough edges, the debts I cannot pay.

Don’t love me like his love for Sawit,

Love me the way humans do.
