64th Anniversary of UMS; UMS Opens a New Class at Tongmyong University Republic of Korea

Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta (UMS) turned 64 years old on October 24, 2022. With all the dynamics, challenges and prospective advances in science and technology that are so fast, especially advances in the field of information technology, which further encourages the enactment of the future. Industry 4.0, marked by the advancement of the digitalization system which has brought very basic changes to civilization in various fields of life. So, according to its vision, Mencerahkan,Unggul, and Mendunia, this year’s anniversary of UMS was celebrated with great fanfare at the Edutorium KH. Ahmad Dahlan UMS and invited national and even international figures. That was explained by Prof. Dr. Sofyan Anif M. Si through his report as Chancellor of UMS.

“Alhamdulillah, UMS is increasingly able to show its existence which is marked by increasing trust and recognition from various countries around the world and for this we have installed 32 state flags in front of the Siti Walidah Main Building,” said Sofyan.

UMS in its role and contribution in advancing the nation is certainly in accordance with the grand vision of UMS, namely as a center for Islamic science and technology development and providing a direction for change. The direction of change in question is a change in civilization that is rooted in religious values ​​and the noble values ​​of the nation’s culture in all sectors of life, both at the local and world levels.

Thus, in the report, there are many achievements of UMS until 2022 in realizing this vision. One of them was the signing of the MoU between UMS, represented by Prof. Dr. Sofyan Anif M. Si with Tongmyong University (TU) Republic of Korea represented by Prof. Chun Ho Hwan. The signing was related to the opening of the UMS class at Tongmyong University.

“So far, the work programs that we do are in the form of transfer credits and double degrees for 2 years at UMS and 2 years in Korea. From the experience of this collaboration, Tongmyong University chose not only a double degree but we were also given the opportunity to open a class or branch of the UMS undergraduate program at Tongmyong University,” added Sofyan.

On that occasion, Prof. Chun Ho Hwan from Tongmyong University was also given the opportunity to deliver a scientific oration entitled “Gotong Royong for the Future of UMS and TU”.

In addition, Prof. Sofyan also announced that within the next 1 to 2 weeks UMS will receive a decision letter on new study programs from the Ministry of Education and Culture, Research and Technology, namely the Doctoral Program in Pharmacy and Psychology; Master’s Degree in Nursing, Mathematics, and Hospital Management. While S3 Engineering, Economics, English Education, and Indonesian Language Education; and S1 Digital Business and Visual Communication Design are still in the process of being assessed. According to records and reports from LLDikti and the HR directorate of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Research and Technology, UMS will also add professors in the near future. There are 9 names that have been recorded that will be given a professor’s decree even though it is in the assessment process. And not to forget, UMS also gave awards to outstanding lecturers in the series of milad events.

Another thing that also was conveyed by Prof. Sofyan in his speech included superior and A accreditation UMS which was received by 40 study programs or as much as 66% of the total number of study programs. The aspiration to become a World Class University, UMS’s digital library-based library has received A accreditation since 2016, UMS in 2022 has also received an award as the first best MBKM campus in Central Java in the area of ​​6 LLDikti Central Java, HAKI of 361 documents, the total of Proposals funded for Lecturer Research reached 30.4 billion, Achievements in the Field of Community Service which reached 427 documents or reached 1.8 billion, the number of international PKM (Student Creativity Week) was 11 proposals or reached 4.1 billion, etc.

In the commemoration event, Bimo Widyo Andoko SH, MH as the head of LLDikti Region 6 Central Java was also invited and gave his speech. He congratulated UMS on the 64th anniversary of UMS.

“We are proud that UMS has been able to answer challenges and be able to become one of the leading universities in Indonesia and in the world. This is evidenced by the predicate of excellent accreditation, good performance and profile of lecturers with the increasing number of professors and the wider network of collaboration. The services of regional 6 educational institutions will always be ready and present to be good partners and companions for the UMS to achieve further success in the future,” said Bimo.

He also hoped that with increasing age, UMS would become more advanced and able to compete with other universities in the world, as evidenced by the receipt of a grant to become a World Class University.
