A man sat beneath a tree, gazing up at the sky and watching the clouds drift by. After a while, he turned to the person beside him and spoke, “Hey, do you remember that time we were late for school and found out that the gates had already closed? We ended up skipping class and spending all day just goofing off. It was so much fun wasn’t it?”

“…”

Silence was his only reply.

He looked back at the sky, lost in thought for a moment for a moment before asking again, “Do you remember when you came to me with that proud look on your face because your science project won second place? I never congratulated you for it because I was too shy. Haha. What a joke, right? Then, congratulations on coming in second place!”

“…”

Again, he was met with silence.

Five minutes passed before he spoke up once more, “Do you remember when you lost your mother due to her illness? I can only imagine how difficult that must have been for you.”
“…”

He was still met with silence.

After another five minutes, he asked, “Do you remember that day when I told you those jokes that ended up hurting your feelings? I want to apalogize for what I said.”

“…”

Once more, he was greeted by silence.

The silence was pierced by the chirping of birds in the tree, their cheerful songs contrasting sharply with their atmosphere around them.

He asked again, “Do you remember when you accepted my proposal despite all my shortcomings? That was the happiest day of my entire life. I just want to thank you for choosing to be my wife.”

And once more, “Do you remember the day our daughter was born? You held her and said, ‘Thank you for coming into the world safely.’ I want to thank you again—for everything you did to bring her into our lives.”

And again, “Do you remember the time we decided to play a prank on you and you were upset with us for the whole day? We’re really sorry about that.”

“…”

Yet again, silence enveloped them, unbroken.

After asking all those questions and hearing nothing in return, he finally stood up, his heart heavy with unspoken words. He asked, his voice trembling with sorrow, “Do you still remember? That moment when you were lying in bed, telling me you were fine so I wouldn’t have to worry? You… were a liar. You lied to us… to me. Why did you lie and then leave us just like that?”

He turned around to face her tombstone and asked for the last time. “Hey,” he said softly, his voice barely above a whisper. “Did you ever know how much I loved you, even now? It’s not just me—our daughter love you too. You’ve always been the heart of my—our family life, the one who brought joy and warmth into our lives.”

He took a moment, trying to calm himself. “I just want to thank you… thank you for filling my life—and our life—with such beautiful memories… with you… my love. Every moment we shared was special, and I’ll always cherish it. Please watch over us from above and help our daughter grow up safe and happy. Until we meet again, my love, I will carry you in my heart.”

With that, he took a deep breath and walked away, carrying their memories with him.
