Candra Purnama Ramayana Dance Performance “Sinta Obong” at Balekambang Park

Surakarta, LPM Campus – The performance titled “Sinta Obong” from Semarak Purnama Sendratari Ramayana, also known as Sendratari Candra Purnama Ramayana was held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the Balekambang Park Amphitheater, Surakarta City. The Sinta Obong performance tells the story of Sinta, a character from the epic puppet tale, who demonstrates her strong determination and loyalty to Rama by throwing herself into a burning sea of fire.
This Sinta Obong performance was organized by the Surakarta City Culture and Tourism Office in collaboration with Balekambang Park and Sendratari Candra Purnama Ramayana, which this time features the Ramayana performance “Sinta Obong” by one of the dance troupes in Surakarta, Sanggar Pincuk. Targeting both local society and tourists from outside Solo, the performance attracted more than 1000 spectators that day.
Mrs. Rini One of the organizing committee explained that this Sendratari performance is held monthly, featuring 12 different story titles that together form a series based on the Ramayana. Then the performers from dance studios in Solo will previously be selected through recruitment or selection and do a lot of training beforehand as preparation. The organizers are also quite massive in preparing this event well, starting from conceptualising the event design, promotion through mass media and social media, and so on.

Despite the rainy weather during the show, the audience’s enthusiasm remained undiminished. Ota, Hanum, and Putra, members of the audience, said that the show was still exciting and interesting, and the performers, who were still children, were still totality and performed very nicely.
Not only for entertainment, “With this ballet performance we can learn more about the puppetry culture in Java, and this event can also promote the arts culture in Solo,” said Hanum and Ota.
“We hope that in the future this event will be held indoors so we can enjoy it even if it rains,” added Hanum and Ota. Conversely, Putra hopes to adjust the event’s timing to better accommodate the rainy season, in view of nowadays being a rainy season. Meanwhile, the organizer conveyed her hope that this performance will be better and continue to improve its performance and organization in the future, emphasising the importance of support from the city government and favourable weather conditions, especially for the next show, which is scheduled for December 13th.
