In Celebration of its 65th Anniversary, UMS Holds Healthy Walks and Bazaars
In order to commemorate the 65th Anniversary of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta, various interesting events were held. One of them was “Healthy Walk and Bazaar” which was held on November 12, 2023. The event began at 07.00 WIB, where previously the participants gathered in front of the faculty of psychology to start together. The route traveled starts from Makuto Street, then passes the Alana Hotel to head towards the Edutorium, and returns to Campus 2 (Finish). The number of participants who took part in this Healthy Walk was approximately 10,000 people. This is known because previously the committee first distributed clothes to the participants. After crossing the finish line, the UMS Chancellor headed to the Siti Walidah Main Building Roundabout by passing the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) bazaar stands. Sofyan Anif said a few words to welcome the healthy walk participants. “Of course this is a very happy day. We can gather here, stay in touch in order to also be grateful for the blessings of Allah UMS has been 65 years old. And the older the healthier, “said Sofyan Anif as Rector of UMS.
Healthy walk participants are not only from among students and lecturers, but also from outside parties such as UMS branches, Ortom PDPM Sukoharjo, and many more who cannot be mentioned one by one. Many participants from outside and internal campuses participated in this Healthy Walk and Bazaar event by inviting their families. “For occasional family gatherings, especially since this event is held on Sundays, it’s not bad to spend time with family, and this also enlivens the 65th Anniversary of UMS,” said one local resident.
At the happy event, UMS managed to record three records which were then recognized and awarded by the World Indonesian Achievement Institute (LEPRID). Paulus Pangka, Chairman of LEPRID, said that his visit to UMS this time was the tenth time to give awards from LEPRID. UMS also managed to create three records at once. The three records involve eating kerupuk rambak ‘Siswanto’ with the most participants, reaching a total of 10,000 kerupuk rambak. In addition, there are records for Umroh Backpacker and BPJS Worry-Free Hard Work Gymnastics. Not only that, what makes this healthy walk event so exciting is that the committee has prepared various prizes that will be distributed to all participants. But before that, all participants will be given coupons which will be drawn by UMS officials. The main prizes that are eagerly awaited are Umrah tickets, five motorbikes, dozens of bicycles, and there are also electronic devices. But unfortunately, the committee only distributed vouchers to lecturers, employees, and invited guests. Meanwhile, students who represent UKM only get snacks and souvenirs.
According to the participants, the flow of the event was not conducive because the committee did not close the road from the initial coordination. It is feared that it can interfere with other road users. “The conditions may be less organized due to the lack of a committee that organizes traffic during the implementation of the Healthy Way, so that at the time of implementation there are still many vehicles. The committee should have prepared posts to temporarily close road access so that the implementation becomes more orderly and conducive, “said Syahrul, one of the students.
Sofyan Anif as the Chancellor of UMS hopes that the age of 65 does not make UMS more sluggish but healthier and flapping its wings. This is evidenced by the increasing public trust including recognition both from within and outside the country.
“I hope this event can be held more often and can also be more organized in the technical implementation, and also cleanliness is a note whether it can be controlled. for events like this it is very good for internal and external campuses, and also for other communities because the general public can see that UMS also has exciting and interesting activities like this”. Hope Hilmi, a student of UKM Hizbul Wathan.
