The 65th anniversary ceremony of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta was held at the UMS Edutorium, Tuesday (24/10/2023). The ceremony was led by the Rector of UMS, Prof. Dr. Sofyan Anif, M.Si., and attended by the entire academic community of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. This ceremony is the culmination of a series of UMS Anniversary celebrations. Many parties were invited to this event, from several alumni who became community leaders, representatives from each sub-district around the campus, Muhammadiyah leaders, and many more.

One of the lecturers and alumni of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta, Nur Prasetyo Aji, S.Ak., M., Ak, also attended this ceremony voluntarily as a form of love for UMS.

“Not representing, if you say because it is mandatory or not, actually not. Because this is my own will to attend the UMS anniversary ceremony as one part of UMS, namely lecturers and as alumni too,” he said.

Several series of events were held including a senate session containing the Chancellor’s Report, speeches from guests of Padang State University, awards for several UMS lecturers, and solidarity actions for Palestine.

Preparations for this anniversary ceremony have been prepared from several months, about two months ago with Prof. Dr. Sabar Narimo as the person in charge and chaired by the dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Prof. Dr. Anton.

Andy Ratmanto, secretary of the dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) revealed that in commemoration of the 65th anniversary of UMS, a healthy walk will be held which is planned to be held on 5 November 2023. However, because there are some unfinished preparations, the walk will finally be held on 12 November 2023.

Andy Ratmanto also explained that there were differences between the festivities in commemorating the 65th UMS Anniversary with last year where the puppet show was eliminated and replaced with the Hanebu Sauyun concert which was held on 29 September 2023. In addition to the healthy walk and concert, UMS will also hold a recitation with Ustadz Adi Hidayat as the guest star.

“There used to be puppets, but this year the puppet show was eliminated because it was replaced by the Hanebu Sauyun concert,” said Andy Ratmanto.

Nur Prasetyo Aji, S.Ak., M.Ak as a guest lecturer who also attended also said that this year’s Milad UMS was different from last year, both in terms of the series of events and the enthusiasm of the audience which was increasing from year to year.

“Of course this year is more festive. More entertainment, many events which are certainly more interesting from a series of events since last month, such as football, basketball, volleyball followed by almost all faculties, finance bureaus, business charity bureaus and so on and it is more crowded compared to last year. Last year there was nothing like this.” He added

In addition to lecturers, UMS also invited organisations and all UKM both at the faculty and university levels, one of which was UKM MEDS (Muhammadiyah English Debating Society). Five MEDS members attended the ceremony to fulfil the invitation from Student Affairs.

Pandu, one of the five members, revealed that he was quite impressed with the speeches delivered by several important figures who were present at the 65th UMS Milad celebration ceremony this year.

“I was touched by the speeches of the figures in front.” He commented.

The anniversary ceremony was also enlivened by the musicalisation of poetry performed by some of the University’s top officials, namely the rector and his vice rector and accompanied by the strains of the Indonesia Pusaka song by Vocal Al-Kindi. The poems that were performed carried the theme of nationality, about the issues being faced by the Republic of Indonesia, as well as poems about the State of Palestine which is currently still facing war.

During the musicalisation, some members of IMM (Muhammadiyah Student Association) took the initiative to raise funds among the audience, later the funds collected will be channeled for humanitarian assistance in the State of Palestine.

The Muhammadiyah University Anniversary Ceremony went smoothly, the audience who attended also gave a positive impression of what was presented at the event. The audience also gave their best wishes for the UMS anniversary celebration and for the future of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta.

Pak Aji as a lecturer who was also a participant in the ceremony hopes that in the future the UMS Anniversary celebration can be even grander and more useful and there will be more series of activities that can be enjoyed by the entire academic community ranging from lecturers, students, and even UMS employees.

The students who attended as representatives of each organisation also expressed their best wishes for their beloved university, one of which was Pandu, as a representative of MEDS, expressed his hopes for UMS.

“My hope is that our campus, my beloved campus, can continue to develop its facilities as well as the quality of its teachers” said Pandu, as a representative of the UKM MEDS (Muhammadiyah English Debating Society) organisation.

Mr Andy Ratmanto also expressed his hope for Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta in the future.

“I wish, hopefully UMS will be more advanced, more developed and more globalised.”
