Grebeg Sudiro Cultural Carnival To Enliven The Chinese New Year Went Very Lively
Surakarta, LPM Campus – Grebeg Sudiro is an annual event in Sudiroprajan Village which is right around Pasar Gedhe Solo, Surakarta City. One of the series of events in this event is the Cultural Carnival which is held on Sunday, (2/4) at 13.00 A.M. Western Indonesia Time. This cultural carnival shows a procession of art along the Pasar Gedhe roundabout to the north into Jenderal Sudirman road.
Initially, Grebeg Sudiro was only a village event of the Surakarta City Government, but now it has been added in the Kharisma Event Nusantara calendar and listed in the tourism calendar at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (KEMENPAREKRAF) of Indonesia.
People who came were able to find out information about the Cultural Carnival from local residents and also from existing social media platforms. Due to the rain condition on location, the event that was planned to be started on 13.00 A.M are started at 14.00 P.M. The event began with the raising of the flag and the release of pigeons.
Even though, the local people remained enthusiastic and had various creative ideas in enlivening the series of events. Many people were also willing to stop on the side of the road to just watch this event.
As one of the event visitors said, “The community is very enthusiastic in following this event, indeed every year when this event is held it must rain, because according to Chinese belief, if it doesn’t rain it means bad luck, but if it rains it means a blessing.” Said Mrs. Ismi, one of the sellers at Pasar Gedhe Solo.
In addition, Mrs. Ismi also said that the income for market sellers has increased because of the many visitors who stop by when they come to watch the cultural carnival.
The hope for the Grebeg Sudiro event in the future is that next year there will be more people attending the event, not only local Solo citizens, but also out-of-towners. As suggested by one of the event volunteers, ” The promotion of this event need to be expanded, so that many communities outside easy to find out this series of events and interested in enlivening this.” Said Nafisha as a volunteer.
She also said that the euphoria of this Grebeg Sudiro event series would not be affected by rain. Because, peoples are seems to be more enthusiast in enlivening the event in the rain.
