Solo, LPM CAMPUS – A number of students of Universitas Sebelas Maret  (UNS) students and various communities held a demonstration to reject Presidential Instruction N umber 1 of 2025 regarding budget efficiency, Monday (17/2/2025).

The demonstration held by Sebelas Maret University (UNS) students to reject the budget efficiency policy was tense, this is because the policy is considered detrimental to the community, however this demonstration continued with enthusiasm from various circles of society despite the rain.

Dozens of students from various UNS faculties gathered wearing all black costumes to fill the Boulevard field. There were also banners placed in front of the UNS gate that read “INDONESIA (C) GOLD” and “EFFICIENCY = SELF KILLING” held by the demonstrators.

Muhammad Faiz, as the president of the UNS Student Executive Board (BEM) gave a statement regarding this budget efficiency policy. “What is definitely worrying about this policy is first, the impact of efficiency will continue, maybe it will even increase the gap between the rich and the poor, because then maybe the poor will increase in number and also yesterday the discourse of this budget cut in the field of education and it could be that the UKT in the future will increase, while indeed the budget is limited and universities need to manage the money in it.” said Faiz at UNS Boulevard, Jebres, Solo, Monday (17/2/2025).

Faiz said that the existence of this budget efficiency was considered more detrimental to the community because not a few of them felt that this policy actually had a negative impact on the survival of Indonesian citizens, especially in the aspect of education.

Apart from that, the community also asked the government to immediately improve the concept and implementation of the free nutritious meal program so as not to harm the community from other related aspects.

According to Faiz, students will continue to monitor the policies of the Prabowo administration and there is still the potential for an increase in the single tuition fee (UKT).

Kinan, as part of the BEM Fisip UNS section of KASPRO (Studies and Propaganda Action) also responded to the existing policy “This happened because of the government’s lack of transparency in making rules, so we as the people know that it has become a rule, now when it has become a rule we are turbulent thinking that people on the side of the government are the opposition even though we oppose what we think is not appropriate, we oppose it also because we make studies, studies mean that we do not swallow the information that is available, we also study how the policy will affect the people.”

Kinan believes that this incident occurred because of the government’s lack of transparency in making the existing rules, where the community was forced to accept the rules that were set and could only accept the impacts caused.

Therefore, the community hopes that this demonstration can be heard by the government and can be more selective in determining future policies, especially in policies that favor the Indonesian people. Moreover, the government is considered too imposing a program that makes other programs fail to be realized or problematic.
