Degradation of Moral Education Trigger Bullying Behavior
The current generation, better known as the millennial generation, they are required to be agents of change to lead Indonesia to become a developed country. This millennial generation is the hope as the successor to this nation’s leadership milestone. So great is the hope of this nation to them. However, there is one problem that is indicated to be the cause of the millennial generation not being able to realize the ideals of the nation, namely the moral degradation of education in their social environment.
Degradation means setback, decline, or decline in something, while morals are morals or character. Moral education is very much needed in the present and future generations. The result of the degradation of moral education has an impact on the poor quality of the current generation’s behavior. Indonesia can be said to be not yet a developed country, many things are used as a benchmark for a country that can be said to be a developed country. We can see one of them in the behavior of people who can act in an adult manner toward themselves and others. When viewed from the many behaviors that are carried out by teenagers today, can it be said to be advanced?
The behavior of adolescents that occurs shows that there is a decline in morale that is currently being experienced by the Indonesian nation. The future of a nation is held by its youth, none other than the people who are in their teens, therefore it is very important for this nation to improve the quality of its youth for a better Indonesia.
The moral degradation of education can occur due to the influence of globalization which is increasingly entering Indonesia. With the application, it should be able to increase public morale if it is balanced with strong knowledge and preventive actions from the community. However, it is very unfortunate that the Indonesian people are so lacking in distinguishing which cultures are good and in accordance with the ancestral culture of the Indonesian nation. It is as if the people, especially the youth, have swallowed up the influence of a western culture that has entered Indonesia, starting from the way of speaking, behavior, and so on. The longer the bad behavior persists among young people, the more impact it will have on themselves and their social environment, and the worse it will be. Moral education should continue to be improved, it needs innovation and evaluation so that current and future generations will have better behavior in social life.
As a result of the degradation of moral education, one of them is the trigger for bullying cases. Lately, bullying often happens to students, university students, and the general public. These cases are a handful of bullying that occurred in this country. Of course, there are still many cases of bullying in other areas that are not exposed to the mass media. Bullying itself will cause the victim to experience a decrease in self-confidence, feelings of guilt, frustration, depression, difficulty trusting others, and many more. Bullying is basically not only physical but also verbal and social.
This bullying behavior often occurs in schools from elementary, junior high, and high school. Even though the tertiary level is considered as an educated student, bullying cases never subside. Doesn’t it look sad when bullying still occurs in the academic sphere. It can be said that bullying among students is crueler than bullying from elementary to high school. Bullying in college is carried out in groups that target someone who is considered easy to bully. The rise of bullying cases should be something for all of us to think about. It turns out that the process of moral education has not been able to create the character of someone who loves peace. Solving problems by means of violence is more prominent than efforts to make peace. So who is at fault in this matter?
All Indonesian people must be influential in this matter. Education should not only prioritize academic knowledge but also need to be balanced with moral education at ages that are easy to form character. Good character is not only those who can feel it themselves, but those around them will also feel the goodness too. We as candidates for the nation’s successors should understand the nature that good morals and accompanied by academic and non-academic intelligence will lead us to real success.
In seeking to improve morale in the current generation so that bad behavior, especially bullying behavior, is reduced. It should be known and applied as much as possible by the people of Indonesia, in order to create quality moral education. Providing moral education from an early age is one of the ways to build a character that is easy to do because it can still be guided and it’s easy to catch things that are taught by parents or teachers.
Parents as much as possible provide direction and limits on behavior. In addition, parents must also provide religious education to children. Because religion has regulated how the relationship between humans and God, the relationship between humans and humans, and the relationship between humans and the surrounding environment. Apart from the family, moral education must also exist in schools, schools are supposed to provide moral education to students, even during academic study, teachers can provide rules and regulations that must be obeyed, give sanctions for violations, and also provide advice that builds character. In extracurricular activities, moral education teaching related to the topic of learning is also given. Extracurricular activities need to be multiplied by activities that foster the moral character of students, such as extracurricular activities in the field of scouting or others. Teacher behavior at school also influences student moral development, students will imitate what they see, and teachers must be able to provide examples of good behavior to their students.
In addition to the efforts of the family and school, the environment also influences them. In order for moral education to increase and cases of bad behavior, especially bullying behavior to decrease, is to create a positive environment. A conducive environment will support the formation of good individual morals. It needs to be underlined that in order to change or create a positive value and quality character in a person, it needs a process, it cannot directly improve the character. The whole community must be obliged to take part in helping to create moral education. The hope is that when character cultivation has been successful in the current and next generations, it can be said that Indonesia is a developed country. Succeeded in making a society that adheres to religious values, morals, and the rules of society and state life through the reflection of ethics, morals, character, and is marked by a spirit of consistency, and a strong determination to think positively and be full of optimism to move forward. The triggers for this bullying behavior will disappear and continue to be replaced with a spirit of change in moral education that is even better in the future.
