In a fast-paced and demanding world, the importance of mental health has become crucial to understanding what mental health means. Recently, the global community has been reconciled with the South Korean drama series “Daily Dose of Sunshine”, which deals with mental health issues and their relationship to everyday life, which has stolen the public’s attention, especially from fans of Korean dramas. This Korean drama seeks to eliminate the stigma of psychiatric care, as the title suggests, while also encouraging public discussion about mental health.
The drama is adapted from the webtoon Asylum Diary Nurse Sheena. The webtoon was first released in 2017 and continued until October 2023, with a total of 199 episodes touching the hearts of readers. The Daily Dose of Sunshine aired on Netflix for 12 episodes, promising a touch of harmonies, emotions, and love.
The Daily Dose of Sunshine discusses mental disorders experienced by young people, such as excessive work anxiety. Work anxiety is often seen as part of “working hard” to improve performance. It should be avoided so as not to become a harmful habit for your health. Each employee, also known as a corporate slave, has different causes and sources of job anxiety: unreasonable deadlines, tough superiors, high workloads, considered “favorite employees,” and an unfair working environment, which leads to a lack of appreciation for the job.

The main character is Jung Da Eun, a nurse who has just been transferred from the deep disease department to neuropsychiatry. Jung Da Eun played his role very well and was very inspiring.
Despite the bitter fact that mental health problems are on the rise, there is warmth and pleasure in the colorful and bright set design, as well as in the characters wearing orange and pink scrubs. The drama features various aspects of disorders such as schizophrenia, paranoia, depression, delusions, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. However patients are never depicted as victims of stereotypes, and the drama is more empathic than sympathetic.
This story raises awareness that mental health problems can attack anyone, regardless of education level and economic status, and even nurses, including doctors, are also in this category.
This drama series aims to encourage people to proactively take action to help mental health and build a society where mental health is understood, appreciated, and given priority. It shows that prioritizing mental health isn’t just a personal responsibility but a collective responsibility.
