Behind the excitement of the 48th Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah Muktamar in Surakarta on 18-20 November 2022, there were many volunteers who helped make the event run smoothly. For example is Clean Volunteers—were tasked with educating the penggembira who attend to maintain the cleanliness of the venues for the Muktamar event. But in reality, they didn’t just educate, they also cleaned Muktamar venues such as De Tjolomadoe, Manahan Stadium, Along Adi Sucipto Street, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta Campus 1, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta Campus 2 and Edutorium KH. Ahmad Dahlan UMS.

According to Mrs. Ismokoweni as a member of the volunteer section, the volunteer section has two tasks, namely providing human resources for volunteers for each section and educating about cleanliness. However, it turned out that in reality these volunteers also participated in cleaning, especially at the De Tjolomadoe venue where there were no cleaning services involved during the Muktamar Fair there. For the venue at De Tjolomadoe, these volunteers had taken to the field from 17-21 November 2022, for the Manahan Stadium and on Jalan Adi Sucipto only on 19 November 2022 while for other venues from 17-20 November 2022.

Muktamar Clean Volunteers are actually Muktamar Clean Ambassadors, so their job is to campaign and educate all parties to dispose of waste in its proper place. The Muktamar Clean Ambassadors, 99% came from Hizbul Wathan scouting elements in Solo except for Boyolali and Wonogiri where Hizbul Wathan scouting was directed to transportation. The volunteers for the Muktamar Clean actually had educate cadres or penggembira through all media to be able to implement a Muktamar clean by disposing of trash in its place or if we haven’t found a trash, we can store it until we find a trash, but it turned out that many people were impatient so they left their trash behind.

Meanwhile, from the amount of waste that has been collected, the waste would be sorted and separated so that it could be sold again.

“The collected waste will be sorted at landfills so that it can be sold. But because we are working with cadres and KOKAM (Muhammadiyah Youth Preparedness Command), let it be their sustenance,” said Ms. Weni.

“In a day we can collect 1500 trash bags for one Muktamar venue. Meanwhile, in Manahan yesterday we were able to collect more than 1,800 trash bags,” continued Ms. Weni.

The solution given by Mrs. Weni for future events is that we must always educate ourselves and others about the importance of maintaining cleanliness and that starts with ourselves so that we always maintain the cleanliness around us.
