1000 Candi Kendi Kendat: A Night of Euphoria

Boyolali, LPM Campus – In the middle of erosion of the culture that being identity of a domicile, In era where people are more interested in eccentric and fashionable clothing, As well as the dependence on social attention on what is being worn are some of the factors that cause the fading of cultural identity. Surakarta or commonly called Solo is a small city of the former Mataram division that is identical and thick with it’s culture. Solo continues to move relentlessly by starting to instilling early on the meaning of the struggle to preserve Javanese cultural identity. There should be an actor who initiates the comeback of Solo’s cultural identity and start creating new memories for the next generations, especially Gen-Z and Gen-alpha who are running around looking for their identity.
Anang Pamuji is one of the actors behind the elegant, naive and eccentric splendor of Javanese culture. The show is titled “100 Candi Kendi Kendat” which presents a trilogy of ma Bhayangkara. Anang shared the meaning of this event, “1000 for us is a fantastic number that represents ideas and mindsets for us in building and advancing Indonesia as a country rich in culture.” For Anang cs, the jug (kendi) is a manifestation of the beauty of Indonesian culture that is pure without caste and hierarchy. Anang admits that he is worried that the next generation will forget how cool a performance watched with relatives, friends and family is by trying to leave the smart device that is one of the “trident of culture”.

The concept of the performance held on July 6, 2024 raised the role of water in Pengging, Boyolali, which still flows endlessly. Located in Umbul Kendat, Anang cs built a mini stage above a bathing pool that is usually used for bathing in Kendat, Boyolali. Anang and his team admitted that this concept was not only about the role of water, but also about all the important elements for humans such as earth, fire and wind. In addition, this performance also coincides with the Islamic New Year or more precisely the night of the Islamic New Year which falls on July 7, 2024. Anang admitted that he only spent 1 week to build this performance or you could say Anang cs ‘spontaneously’ did this to stimulate the passion of young people in shaping a cultural identity capable of expanding its wings to the international arena.
1000 Kendi Kendat Temple began on June 5, 2024 with a painting exhibition featuring artworks by painters from Solo and surrounding areas. Indi, as a painter and organizer, expressed his excitement about the enthusiasm of various groups, from citizens to fuctionary. Indi revealed that this event was the beginning of a new spirit in search of identity. Furthermore, there was a drawing competition for all ages. The enthusiasm could be seen from the participants. Children to the elderly also enlivened the event. Then on the next day or the peak of the event, there was Kirab 1000 Candi Kendi Kendat, melodious keroncong strains and ended with a dance performance entitled Trilogi ma Bhayangkara. On the audience seats were served small foods typical of Solo which gave a nostalgic impression. Anang admitted that he was happy and even surprised by the explosion of the audience. In fact, Anang cs was worried about the stage. However, Anang breathed a sigh of relief because the event went successfully without any damage. Anang cs advised that this awareness could start new things for generation Z and below to build a more sustainable cultural identity.
